Dr. Garcia

M. Lourdes Garcia, MD, PhD, is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and she specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of adult and pediatric eye disorders. 

She is an assistant professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School where she participates in the training of ophthalmology residents.

Her professional interests include cataract surgery and intraocular lenses, dry eyes, glaucoma management, diabetic ocular exams, functional eyelid surgery, BOTOX, and neurophthalmology.

Dr Garcia received a PhD in Vision Sciences from the University of Valladolid in Spain and then continued her studies in the US.

She received fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Genetic Eye Disorders at the Cleveland Clinic. This included training in neuro-ophthalmology from the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University.  Dr Garcia also completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where she received the Stocker award.

Dr. Garcia has authored numerous papers, given international presentations, and is the co-author of a textbook on genetic disorders and the eye.  She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has been in private practice in Virginia Beach for two years and recently joined Medical and Surgical Eye Specialists. She participates with the Chesapeake Care  Free clinic.

Dr Garcia accepts most insurance plans and is now accepting new patients.

She is fluent in English and Spanish.
