Multifocal Toric Contact Lenses
Friday, September 2, 2011 at 11:41AM Multifocal toric contacts are great for patients who have previously worn toric contacts and now need reading glasses. They are also an option for patients who have been told that they can't wear contacts because of their astigmatism and/or presbyopia.
Toric contacts correct astigmatism by using a prism ballast to help stabilize the contact lens on the eyes. Multifocal contacts are designed somewhat like progressive eyeglasses, with a gradual change in lens power to help with the transition from distance to near. Multifocal toric contacts combine both of these technologies to give patients good vision at distance and at near.
The cost of these lenses is higher as they take a longer fitting time and more expertise.Toric multifocal lenses are available in monthly disposable and conventional replacement. Two commonly prescribed Multifocal Torics at our office are the Proclear Multifocal Toric and the C-VUE Toric Multifocal.
