Cataract Surgery
One of the most common problems we help our patients with is loss of sight from cataracts. Once cataracts start to cause significant loss of vision, cataract surgery is often used to restore visual function.
All of our physicians are experienced cataract surgeons. We would be more than happy to fully discuss whether or not this type of surgery is appropriate for you.
If you do decide to have cataract surgery, some additional eye tests will be done in the office prior to the operation. These tests include an ultrasound measurement to determine the exact size of the eye, as well as an assessment of the curvature of the front surface of the eye.
Modern cataract surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, and does not require an overnight stay in the hospital. The cataract is removed under local anesthesia, and a lens implant is placed inside the eye to restore focusing power. Eye drops are needed for several weeks after surgery. New glasses are prescribed several weeks after surgery once the eye has finished healing.
