M. Lourdes Garcia, MD, PhD, is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and she specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of ocular disorders.
Dr Garcia has more than 20 years experience in Ophthalmology, is trained in the most advanced cataract surgical techniques, including premium intraocular implants and newer, safer procedures for glaucoma control.
She has been recently recognized for her 10 years of service as an assistant professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she participates in the training of ophthalmology residents.
Dr Garcia received a PhD in Vision Sciences from the University of Valladolid in Spain and then continued her studies in the US. She received fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Genetic Eye Disorders at the Cleveland Clinic. This included training in neuro-ophthalmology from the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Dr Garcia also completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where she received the Stocker award.
Dr. Garcia has authored numerous papers, given international presentations, and is the co-author of a textbook on genetic disorders and the eye. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

She has been recently recognized as Top Ophthalmologist by the Consumers Research Council of America.
She is fluent in English and Spanish.
