Contact Lenses for Presbyopia
These 3 options can be done in either daily disposable, 2-week disposable, or monthly disposable contact lenses. (If you have significant astigmatism requiring a toric lens, multifocal contacts for astigmatism are only available in monthly disposable lenses at this time.)
Distance only contactsContacts will provide clear distance vision; if you are 40+ years old you will need to use reading glasses over top of the contacts for all near activities such as reading and computer work due to your eyes no longer being able to change focus for up close work when your distance vision is corrected.

Monovision contactsOne eye will be corrected for clear distance vision, the other eye will be corrected for clear near vision. The brain adapts to focus with the eye with the clearer vision depending on whether you are looking far away or up close. Each eye works independent from one another. It usually takes 1-2 weeks to adapt the first time you try monovision contacts. You should not need reading glasses for most activities.

Multifocal contactsSpecial type of contact lens designed to have both your near and distance prescriptions built into each lens, usually arranged in a bulls-eye pattern. Because both prescriptions are in front of your eyes simultaneously, there is usually a slight compromise to the overall clarity of your near and distance vision as compared to how you would see through glasses. Multifocal contacts usually eliminate the need for glasses for most activities. It may take 1-2 weeks to fully adapt to multifocal contacts.
